Businesses that Respond to Reviews Are 75 Times MORE Likely to Appear in AI Answers, Study Reveals
Trustpilot said active review profiles and regular responses lift AI citations, with cited brands appearing in 75.3% of answers versus 1% for inactive profiles.
Trustpilot commissioned an analysis of over 800,000 responses across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode, finding Trustpilot emerged as the most frequently cited review platform among all four.
Almost all citations occur organically because Trustpilot pages appear in search results, embodying the '3Rs' for building trust in AI: Recency, Ranking, and relevance.
Brands can increase citation rates from 1% to 53.5% by establishing a Trustpilot presence, rising to 75.3% when collecting over 80 reviews; review sites now account for 14% of all AI citations.
With 58% of consumers using AI-powered tools to find products, a widening gap emerges between brands nurturing trust signals and those without active profiles; missing profiles may appear as warning signs.
Alicia Skubick, Chief Customer Officer at Trustpilot, stated that trust is now a "quantifiable, high-value asset" for brands; new tools provide insights into how trust signals drive AI citations as consumer behavior shifts.
