11 Children Injured as School Van Catches Fire in Murree
Police said the van’s brakes failed and legal proceedings are under way after four critically injured children were referred to hospitals in Rawalpindi.
- On Tuesday, a school van plunged off Angoori Road in Murree and caught fire, injuring 11 children. Locals and rescue teams extinguished the blaze before transferring victims to nearby hospitals.
- Preliminary reports indicate the van's brakes failed, causing it to fall off the road. The vehicle was carrying 11 passengers, exceeding its designated capacity of eight people.
- Four children sustained severe burns and were transferred to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi. Arham suffered around 38 per cent burns, Hassan Talib around 26 per cent, and Ayesha around 42 per cent.
- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed concern and directed authorities to ensure quality medical treatment for all victims. District Police Officer Murree Raza Tanveer Supra launched an investigation into the incident.
- Authorities plan to implement more thorough inspections of locally operated school vans to prevent similar crashes. This incident follows several fatal road accidents in Murree in recent months.
