Through his X account, Bukele rejected the interpretations that pointed to a possible transfer of the state’s digital assets. “The only thing that was transferred was Chivo’s shares (...) and NOT Bitcoin’s Strategic Reserve,” the president said.
The IMF plan requires El Salvador to reduce the bitcoin experiment, which made it a favorite of the cryptocurrency industry and a curiosity in world finance.
The international agency enabled a disbursement of nearly US$ 140 million after verifying progress in austerity and transparency.
El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has disputed an El País report that the government has handed over control of more than 7,763 BTC of its national reserves to a private operator.
Bukele said that “the only thing that was transferred was Chivo’s actions (...) and not Bitcoin’s Strategic Reserve.”
