The One-Off Bugatti Destrier Is a Luxurious Take on the 1578-HP Bolide Track Beast
Bugatti’s Solitaire division kept the Bolide’s 1,578-hp W-16 powertrain while giving the one-off a more luxurious body and cabin.
- Bugatti has unveiled the Destrier, a new one-off hypercar from its Solitaire division based on the track-only Bolide, set to debut on August 16, 2026, at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
- Drawing inspiration from the 'most beautiful car ever built'—specifically the Type 57SC Atlantic—Bugatti designed the Destrier to prioritize elegance over the track-focused Bolide using a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis developed with Dallara.
- Power comes from the 1,578-hp quad-turbo 8.0-liter W-16 engine, while the interior features a 3-D-knitted textile with copper yarn in 'a circular 'halo-line' pattern' and the body sits 39.4 inches tall on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels.
- Design Chief Frank Heyl explained the goal was to let the Bolide's extreme proportions 'speak as pure sculpture,' naming the vehicle after 'the finest and strongest type of medieval knight's horse' that abandons racing aerodynamics for refined elegance.
- British specialist Lanzante, which recently converted a Bolide for road use, suggests the Destrier could see similar modifications, and Heyl said he 'believes Destrier will be gracing concours lawns 50 years from now.
