The government's proposed reduction in the pensioner's tax reduction ceiling was reversed this Wednesday by Members of Parliament. The legislative path of the draft budget 2027, which is expected to be very difficult for the government, opened on Wednesday, 7 October, with representatives of almost all political groups rejecting this measure, which would penalise the purchasing power of pensioners.
The lowering of the ceiling for pensioners to benefit from a 10% tax reduction was (symbolically) abolished in the Finance Committee.
In its 2027 budget, the government plans to lower the tax reduction ceiling for pensioners to €3,000, a measure which MEPs in the Finance Committee rejected on Wednesday 7 October, and which is equivalent to a cost of €1.4 billion.
This is far from definitive, since Members will leave the original copy in the Chamber on 13 October. However, the discussions in committee give an overview of the power relations in the National Assembly.
The Finance Committee has removed from the text the government measure aimed at saving on the 10% tax reduction on retirement pensions.
