Defense Comes to Broncos' Rescue as Nix, Offense Struggle
Denver forced 17 quarterback hits and Ja'Quan McMillian's overtime interception set up Wil Lutz's winning field goal.
On Thursday, the Denver Broncos defeated the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 in overtime at Empower Field at Mile High, with place-kicker Wil Lutz securing victory on a 53-yard field goal set up by nickelback Ja'Quan McMillian's interception.
Defensive dominance propelled Denver, as the unit recorded five sacks and 17 quarterback hits against Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold while missing star cornerback Pat Surtain II and starting safety Talanoa Hufanga.
Quarterback Bo Nix struggled, managing only 107 passing yards and failing to generate explosive plays, forcing the defense to remain on the field for 82 total snaps.
Broncos coach Sean Payton praised the defense, noting the team's three takeaways and superior field position proved decisive. "We don't win that game without them," Nix said of the defensive effort.
Following their brutal six-week opening stretch, the 4-2 Broncos will utilize the upcoming long weekend to recover before their Oct. 25 road game against the Arizona Cardinals.
