Holidaymaker's Horror as 'Refund' From Ryanair Turned Out to Be £900 Scam
Ryanair says rainwater dampened seats on the Bristol flight, while the holidaymaker’s bank is pursuing the £900 fraud case.
Sharon Morrell, a 48-year-old bus driver from Bristol, lost £900 to fraudsters posing as Ryanair customer service after complaining online about rain-soaked seats on her flight to Palma, Majorca.
Heavy downpours from Storm Boelo during boarding on October 24 left 11 seats soaking wet, prompting Ryanair crew to assist passengers by wiping down the damp seats with paper towels.
Claiming to represent the airline's compensation team, an unknown caller offered Morrell £200 and instructed her to download mobile apps to facilitate the funds transfer.
Transactions totalling £900 drained from her account to Kenya instead, prompting Morrell to realize she was speaking to a scammer and immediately hang up.
Morrell is now disputing the fraudulent transactions with her bank and warned others: "It's so easy to be sucked in and I just can't believe how easy it is to get scammed.
