South Africa: Police Nab Suspect Found With Runner Tsontso Moselakgomo's Belongings
Police say the suspect may face possession of stolen property charges as investigators continue to build a case in the runner’s murder.
On Monday, October 12, the South African Police Service confirmed the arrest of a suspect found in possession of an item belonging to murdered Kempton Park runner Elizabeth Tsontso Moselakgomo.
The 38-year-old runner disappeared on September 9 after leaving her Rhodesfield home for her usual afternoon run, with her eight-year-old daughter Khumo raising the alarm when she failed to return.
Following her funeral in Phake, Mpumalanga, on September 20, the running community established an education fund for Khumo that had raised over R230 000 by late September.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed only one arrest, refuting reports of four suspects, while noting the individual faces a charge of possession of stolen property rather than murder.
Authorities continue to probe the wider circumstances surrounding Moselakgomo's death, as Deputy National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili stated, "We are hopeful that we are getting closer to the truth.
