A head-on collision between a minibus and a truck near Ipiranga, Parana state, killed at least 23 people early Wednesday, with the bus carrying patients and healthcare workers toward Curitiba.
Preliminary evidence suggests the truck, carrying no cargo, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the minibus; authorities confirmed both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions.
The death toll included 21 adults and two children; most victims were passengers on the bus, which belonged to the Imbituva health department transporting patients to medical centers.
Images from Globo showed the crushed minibus and debris strewn across the roadside as emergency teams worked for hours at the site while the highway remained closed.
