Body of teenager recovered from Greater Manchester reservoir during heatwave
Police said the 18-year-old was found unresponsive and pronounced dead as emergency crews carried out a search and enquiries continued.
Emergency services responded to Dovestone Reservoir on Friday evening after an 18-year-old was found unresponsive in the water, and despite efforts by medical professionals, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident marks the second tragedy in Greater Manchester within 24 hours, following a 49-year-old man's death at Sykes reservoir in the Edgeley area of Stockport on Thursday night.
At least 15 people have died after getting into trouble in open water amid days of hot weather across the region, including a boy at Clifton Country Park earlier this month.
Detective Inspector Steven Horton of the Oldham district stated, "We have tragically recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from the water and are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances."
Officials strongly encourage people to refrain from entering large bodies of water, including reservoirs, rivers, and ponds. "Your safety is our priority," Horton added, urging residents to enjoy the weather safely.
