Blue Jays Decline Club Option for Outfielder Myles Straw
Straw gets a $1.75 million buyout and enters free agency after Toronto declined the 2027 club option, though a return remains possible.
On Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays declined the $8 million 2027 club option on outfielder Myles Straw, making the nine-year MLB veteran a free agent.
The Blue Jays acquired Straw from the Cleveland Guardians in January 2025 to facilitate their pursuit of Japanese free agent Roki Sosaki, assuming part of his salary in the deal.
Over two seasons in Toronto, Straw appeared in 283 games as a reliable bench presence. Management determined his defensive and base-running skill set did not justify the $8 million cost.
Straw receives a $1.75 million buyout paid by the Guardians, though he expressed a desire to return to the Blue Jays. The team has not ruled out re-signing him.
Additionally, the Blue Jays reinstated Anthony Santander, Addison Barger, and Bowden Francis from the 60-day injured list. The team expects Santander to return to the outfield in 2027.
