Blue Jays Claim Catcher Shawn Ross Off Waivers From Mets
Ross adds catching depth for Toronto, which is 1 game back of a Wild Card spot and has made him the third catcher on the 40-man roster.
On Saturday, the Toronto Blue Jays claimed catcher Shawn Ross off waivers from the New York Mets, immediately optioning him to Triple-A Buffalo.
Toronto added Ross to the 40-man roster as the third catcher alongside Alejandro Kirk and Brandon Valenzuela, following recent departures of Tyler Heineman to the Los Angeles Angels and Willie MacIver to the Seattle Mariners.
In 70 games across the minors this season, Ross hit.184 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs, while defensively throwing out 14 runners behind the plate.
The Blue Jays hold a 71-71 record entering Saturday, sitting 1 game back of a Wild Card spot after securing a 9-1 win on Friday.
Originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Clarendon Junior College in 2022, the 26-year-old made his MLB debut earlier this season, appearing in two games before the Mets claimed him.
