GTA 6 Developer Rockstar's Next Game Won't Take Another 8 Years to Make, It Has Promised — but What Will It Be?
Rockstar leadership said the tools and engine built for GTA 6 will let the company develop its next game faster, Bloomberg reported.
Rockstar Games leadership stated that future projects will proceed more quickly following Grand Theft Auto 6's November 19 launch, as new engine and tools provide a foundation for faster production cycles.
The upcoming title follows an eight-year gap since Red Dead Redemption 2, with reports citing $200 million to $300 million spent on water effects and 39 months of labor on broken glass realism.
Phil Hooker, head of development, stated the team can build 'sideways' to create content faster, while Aaron Garbut, co-development boss, said the foundational changes mean 'we're not going to rip it apart.'
Rockstar's head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe remarked, 'Now you understand why it took so long,' after the studio opened a Los Angeles-based studio to create NPCs and developers visited Miami.
Reports suggest the studio wants to revive L.A. Noire, though Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser previously suggested a third Red Dead entry 'will probably happen' one day.
