Hours After Being Introduced as New Astros GM, Randy Flores Is Already Making Changes
Former Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus interviewed for the vacant Houston Astros manager position on Thursday, according to multiple reports. The team is conducting a managerial search following the departure of Joe Espada.
The Astros chose not to retain Espada, who managed the club since the 2024 season. Ausmus, currently the New York Yankees bench coach, has previously interviewed with Houston for other positions.
Ausmus holds a.486 career winning percentage across five seasons as an MLB manager. He led the Detroit Tigers from 2014 to 2017 and managed the Los Angeles Angels in 2019.
Since his Detroit tenure, Ausmus served as a special assistant for the San Diego Padres and as bench coach for Oakland. He joined the Yankees as bench coach in November 2023.
Reports from MLB writer Brian McTaggart and the New York Post confirm Ausmus is a candidate in the Astros' managerial search. The team has not announced a timeline for selecting Espada's successor.
