Biden doubles tariffs on Chinese solar panel components
- The US Trade Representative announced an increase in import taxes for solar wafers and polysilicon from 25% to 50% starting January 1, 2025.
- A new 25% levy will be applied to certain tungsten products used in electronics and semiconductors.
- Katherine Tai stated that the tariffs "will further blunt the harmful policies and practices" adopted by China.
- The International Energy Agency reported that China accounts for over 80% of the solar panel market at all stages of production.
