BermudAir Orders Airbus A220, Plans Massive Growth: Make It Make Sense?
The startup airline plans to more than double its routes by year-end and eventually replace its Embraer 190 fleet with up to 20 A220s.
- On Wednesday, BermudAir announced a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the Farnborough airshow, planning new routes to Bermuda, Anguilla, Belize, Turks, and Caicos.
- BermudAir, operating since 2023, currently relies on four used Embraer E175s and E190s; the airline intends to replace these older jets to support expansion across the Caribbean, North America, and the Atlantic.
- The A220-300 will feature a three-class configuration with 135 seats; BermudAir CEO Adam Scott noted the carrier maintains a 70+ Net Promoter Score and plans to add wifi.
- Deliveries of the new A220 aircraft are expected to begin in late 2027, as BermudAir plans to add up to 20 by 2030. Scott stated, "The A220 is the ideal aircraft to support the next phase of BermudAir's growth."
- Facing competition from JetBlue, American, and United on New York flights, the airline aims to capture customers through differentiation. "We're winning those customers because we actually just do something that is that's very different," Scott said.
