An elderly woman died in an apartment fire in Prenzlauer Berg on Sunday evening, police reported on Monday. Around 7:40 p.m., a resident of Christburger Straße called emergency services after a smoke detector went off in an apartment building. Firefighters gained access to the apartment and found an unconscious 89-year-old resident. All resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, and the woman died at the scene.
