Washington Tow Driver Hikes Into Deep Woods to Rescue Uber Eats Driver Stranded by GPS
Sam Cadle walked about a half-mile to reach the driver, then returned with permission from the Department of Natural Resources to recover the car Monday.
- On Sunday night, Belfair tow truck driver Sam Cadle of North Shore Towing hiked into the woods to rescue an Uber Eats driver stranded after following Waze GPS directions onto a private road.
- The driver, a man in his early 20s, traveled about 1.5 miles down an unpaved road before becoming stuck; Cadle hiked a half-mile into the woods around 12:30 a.m. to locate him.
- After obtaining permission from the Department of Natural Resources, Cadle returned Monday morning and recovered the vehicle using a mini excavator to extract it from the woods.
- Cadle did not charge the driver for the rescue, stating, "I work in a people-helping business," because he felt obligated to ensure the young man's safety when no one else would help.
- Urging drivers to trust their instincts when directions seem incorrect, Cadle advised, "If something doesn't feel right, stop and reassess before you get yourself in trouble.
