Bears Defensive End Montez Sweat Returns From PED Suspension and Apologizes to Teammates
- On Tuesday, Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat returned to practice after serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy, characterizing the positive test as "definitely accidental."
- The suspension forced Sweat to miss victories over the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots, costing him $2.3 million in pay and invalidating remaining contract guarantees.
- Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen increased blitzes during the absence, while slot cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and special teams player Daniel Hardy stepped up to help secure wins.
- Preparing for Monday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, Sweat described the period of separation from teammates as "devastating" while emphasizing his focus on accountability.
- Signed to a four-year, $98 million extension, the defender aims to prove he remains a difference-maker, stating one positive test does not define his career as he rejoins the 5-2 Bears' playoff push.
