- On Friday, Aug. 28, the BC Wildfire Service lifted the off-road vehicle ban on Crown land in the Southeast and Kamloops Fire Centres, following recent precipitation that reduced wildfire risks across the southern interior.
- The ban, which began on Aug. 10th, was implemented due to extreme wildfire conditions and the size and scope of fires burning at that time, applying to all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, and side-by-side vehicles.
- Concurrently, the Coastal Fire Centre lifted its ORV restriction for the South Island, Pemberton, and Fraser fire zones on Friday, though category 2 and 3 fire bans remain in place for the entire region.
- Residents are reminded that bans on campfires and open burning remain in effect in both fire centres, with prohibitions expected to continue until Oct. 9 or until officially rescinded.
- The BC Wildfire Service continues to monitor 87 active wildfires in the Southeast Fire Centre, urging recreators to remain vigilant and ensure ORVs are equipped with effective spark arrestors before operating on Crown land.
