Challenging Conditions Expected for Brunswick Complex Wildfires on Thursday

- BC Wildfire Service expects challenging conditions Thursday for the Ainslie Creek wildfire, with increased fire activity forecast near Merritt as the 61,618-hectare Brunswick Complex continues to threaten area highways.
- Successful hand ignitions and favorable humidity on Tuesday helped moderate the 61,399-hectare fire, BCWS information officer Gordon Robertson said. Crews strengthened control lines near Highway 8 to reduce spotting risks toward the Nooaitch community.
- Twelve evacuation orders and 17 evacuation alerts remain in effect across the Brunswick Complex. Structural protection staffed 24 hours is set up from the nine-kilometre mark on Prospect Forest Service Road to Nooaitch.
- Highway 1 remains closed for an approximately 38-kilometre stretch between Toll Road and Aspen Road. Evacuation alerts expanded Tuesday along Highway 5 from Juliet Drive to the Britton Creek Rest Area.
- Unsettled conditions are expected to continue with a 60 per cent chance of showers forecast Friday and into the weekend. Cooler, more humid conditions may offer relief for crews battling the Brunswick Complex fires facing elevated activity Thursday.
