Storm Forces Cancellation of Several BC Ferries Sailings
BC Ferries said safety concerns could disrupt sailings on its busiest routes as a storm brings up to 150 millimetres of rain.
On Friday, November 6, 2026, BC Ferries cancelled several morning sailings across major coastal routes, including Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, ahead of a "rapidly intensifying storm" reaching the West Coast.
Environment Canada issued wind and rainfall warnings for much of Vancouver Island, forecasting sustained winds near 70 km/h and up to 175 mm of rain as the low-pressure system moved through.
Preemptive cancellations impacted terminals including Nanaimo, Horseshoe Bay, and Departure Bay. BC Ferries stated, "The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us."
Travellers should check the BC Ferries website or call 1-888-223-3779 for updates before heading to terminals, as weather conditions may affect other routes throughout the day.
Three storms are expected to sweep over the West Coast from Thursday through Monday, with Friday's event marking the first and bringing potential power outages to the region.
