B.C. court certifies wheelchair users’ class-action lawsuit against Air Canada
The B.C. Supreme Court certified a class-action lawsuit against Air Canada filed by passengers using wheelchairs or mobility aids between January 2021 and June 2023 who required assistance boarding and seating on flights.
The lawsuit claims Air Canada breached contractual duties by failing to assist passengers relying on mobility aids to move safely and with dignity.
The court highlighted allegations of a systemic problem and a culture of apathy and indifference toward passengers needing mobility help at Air Canada.
Lead plaintiff Rodney Hodgins stated he had to drag himself down an aisle after staff did not assist him off a 2023 Air Canada flight and alleges Air Canada has a systemic issue and culture of apathy toward passengers needing mobility assistance.
