STA: In Germany, police shoot assailant with knife

Police shot a 34-year-old Iranian national in Lauf an der Pegnitz, near Nuremberg, on Sunday after he attacked three police officers with a knife. The attacker succumbed to gunfire, a police spokesman said. Details of the motive and sequence of events are not yet known, German news agency dpa reports.
