Yamal, Mbappé, Kane and Messi in Contention to Win the Ballon d'Or. Here's What to Know
Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé are the leading contenders as France Football’s 100 journalists vote on the 2026 winner.
- On Monday, October 26, 2026, the 70th Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place at the London Palladium, marking the first time organizers staged the gala outside France to honor inaugural winner Stanley Matthews.
- France Football's official website briefly published pre-written winner pages naming Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Kylian Mbappé, which fans discovered hours before the ceremony, prompting widespread confusion.
- Bookmakers list Kane as about 70 percent favorite after his prolific goalscoring season, while data firm Avisia tips Yamal to win with a 23 percent probability, citing his World Cup victory.
- Press Association approached Ballon d'Or organizers for comment on the apparent leaks, which inadvertently suggested Kane, Yamal, and Mbappé were each the winner, leaving fans questioning the integrity of the 70th anniversary event.
- Tonight's winner will be determined by 100 jurors from top-ranked nations casting votes for their top 10 picks from the 30-player shortlist, with 13 distinct awards presented during the gala.
