Avelo Airlines to Begin Commercial Flights From McKinney National Airport
Avelo will base two Boeing 737s at the airport and says the new service will create more than 100 local jobs.
- On Wednesday, Avelo Airlines announced it will launch commercial service at McKinney National Airport on November 11, 2026, with nonstop flights to Las Vegas and four Florida cities: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and Tampa.
- The city purchased the airport in 2013 for $25 million and designed it as a reliever airport for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Love Field, about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas.
- Avelo will base two Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft at DTX, creating over 100 new local jobs including pilots, flight attendants, and technicians. Introductory one-way fares start at $99, with free checked bags for July bookings.
- Mayor Bill Cox said the service reflects "demand for convenient air travel closer to home" and reinforces McKinney's position as a growing destination. Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy called it a "winning combination" for travelers.
- The service launch coincides with completion of a new passenger terminal in November 2026, according to Airport Director Ken Carley. City officials are working to secure a second carrier to expand operations.
