Automatic Expungement, Medical Parole and Good-Time Credits: Oklahoma’s Criminal Justice Reforms
The package speeds automatic expungement, expands medical parole access and lets well-behaved prisoners earn good-time credits faster.
Governor Kevin Stitt signed Senate Bill 2030 earlier this month, directing the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to launch a free online portal for expungement requests by November 1.
The Clean Slate Initiative estimates more than 300,000 Oklahomans will benefit from the law, which resolves technical issues that delayed the 2022 Clean Slate Act implementation.
Employment coordinator Courtenie Jackson and volunteer coordinator Corri Williams noted that criminal records frequently create employment barriers. Jackson stated the legislation will help qualified individuals return to the workforce.
Lawmakers also passed Senate Bill 1213, modifying the Department of Corrections formula for good-time credits for prisoners with class 3 or 4 designations, affecting upwards of 1,000 prisoners.
Senate Bill 1255 shifts medical parole approval authority to the chief medical officer, while House Bill 3321 creates a committee to monitor failure-to-pay arrest warrants with annual reports due December 31.
