Aus Sprinter Charged with Child Sex Offence
Australian Athletics barred Jake Doran from events and training after he was charged with indecent treatment of a child under 16, police said.
Queensland Police charged Australian sprinter Jake Doran with one count of indecent treatment of a child under 16 last week. The 26-year-old was arrested in Townsville and granted bail.
Townsville Police alleged the offending occurred between January 2025 and September 2026 following an extensive investigation. The 26-year-old Nelly Bay man's arrest concluded detectives' probe into the allegations.
Born and raised on Magnetic Island, Queensland, Doran is a two-time national sprint champion who represented Australia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and World Championships. He made the 100m semifinal in Birmingham.
Australian Athletics imposed a provisional ban on the athlete, prohibiting him from attending national, state, or club events and participating in training sessions. The organization stated it takes all allegations very seriously.
The case is scheduled for the Townsville Magistrates Court on November 5, marking the next procedural step. Doran has deactivated social media accounts and holds no role within Australian Athletics.
