Australia gives Ukraine $100m boost against Russia
Australia will add $100 million for critical equipment, lifting total support for Ukraine to more than $1.8 billion, officials said.
- Australia will provide an extra $100 million for critical military equipment to Ukraine, with Ambassador to NATO and former defence force chief Angus Campbell announcing the commitment at the Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting in Brussels.
- This funding brings Australia's total support for Ukraine to more than $1.8 billion, including more than $1.6 billion in military assistance since Russia's 2022 invasion. Defence Minister Richard Marles noted the nation committed an additional $50 million to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List in December 2025.
- Australia and New Zealand became the first non-NATO contributors to a NATO-coordinated initiative purchasing critical defence equipment from the US. Marles stated the country is proud to join this multilateral effort alongside traditional allies.
- Through Operation Kudu, The Australian Defence Force is training Ukrainian troops in Poland under the Norwegian led multinational Operation Legio. The military has trained more than 3650 personnel in basic infantry tactics, leadership and military skills since January 2023.
- Stressing that events in Ukraine impact the Indo-Pacific, Campbell said, "Our ongoing contribution ensures that Ukraine is receiving the support it needs" to defend against Russia's unjustified and unprovoked aggression.
