J-K LG Sinha, CM Abdullah Congratulate Bowler Auqib Nabi for Indian Test Team Selection
Nabi earned a maiden India Test call-up after taking 100-plus wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, selectors said.
- On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India named Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi as replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah in the Test squad for Sri Lanka, starting August 15.
- Medical experts at the Centre of Excellence advised against rushing the 32-year-old Bumrah back into Test cricket. "The two people who run the COE, Dhananjay and Thulasi have decided that Bumrah can't be risked," a BCCI source informed.
- Nabi's selection follows two seasons of dominance in the Ranji Trophy, where he claimed 104 wickets and helped Jammu and Kashmir secure their maiden title with 60 wickets in the 2025-26 season.
- With multiple bowlers sidelined, including Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, and Washington Sundar due to hamstring injuries, India's World Test Championship hopes face significant challenges during the series.
- Joining Parvez Rasool and Umran Malik, Nabi becomes the third cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to receive a senior India call-up. The tour offers the seamer a critical opportunity to cement his place in the national Test setup.
