Auction for FIFA beavers in Toronto closes, Canadian motif statue garners highest bid
Bidding on 50 hand-painted beaver statues closed with the top piece fetching $10,025, and proceeds will support two Toronto charities.
On Monday, online bidding closed for 50 FIFA World Cup-themed beaver statues in Toronto, raising more than $170,000 for charity.
The Old Town Toronto Business Improvement Area hosted an artistic scavenger hunt featuring 52 beaver statues between May 25 and Aug. 16.
High-Value sales included the Canadian motif beaver for $10,025, the Scottish beaver for more than $7,500, and the Spain beaver for $3,200.
Proceeds from the auction will be split equally between First Post Office and KidSport Ontario, per the Old Town Toronto Business Improvement Area.
Finalizing the transfer of funds to KidSport Ontario and First Post Office concludes this FIFA World Cup-themed cultural event. The effort demonstrates community engagement generated by the scavenger hunt.
