Auburn to sit QB Ashton Daniels against Mercer to preserve a year of eligibility
Auburn will sit senior QB Ashton Daniels against Mercer to preserve his redshirt and retain eligibility for a likely start in the Iron Bowl against Alabama, coach DJ Durkin said.
- On Nov. 17, interim head coach DJ Durkin announced Ashton Daniels will not play against Mercer this Saturday at 1 p.m.
- Given Daniels' limited game appearances, Ashton Daniels has suited up three times this season and can play one more regular-season game to retain a redshirt and an extra year of eligibility.
- Since taking over as starter, Ashton Daniels, Auburn quarterback, has completed 62.5% of his passes for 538 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
- Interim coach DJ Durkin said both Jackson Arnold and Deuce Knight will play against Mercer but did not name a starter, adding staff will `put together a great plan' to support them.
- With Auburn Tigers , Jackson Arnold has passed for 1,278 yards and six touchdowns while Deuce Knight appeared once against Ball State.
