Red Sox Trade .601 OPS Outfielder to Athletics for Minor League Pitcher
On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox traded outfielder Nate Eaton to the Athletics for minor league right-hander Jareth Rayo, marking the first transaction of the 2026 MLB offseason.
Athletics president of baseball operations Taylor Smith made this his first acquisition after recently serving as an assistant general manager under Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow.
The 29-year-old Eaton, a four-year MLB veteran, appeared in 24 games for Boston this past season, batting.160 with one home run and six RBI while providing defensive versatility.
Coming to Boston is 18-year-old right-hander Rayo, who posted a 5.50 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 36 innings pitching in the 2026 Dominican Summer League.
Boston initiated the move to clear space on their 40-man roster, while Rayo joins the organization after signing for a $70,000 bonus during the 2024-25 international signing period.
