Astronaut Jeremy Hansen opens CNE, touts importance of Canada's space sector
Hansen said space flight left him forever changed and urged support for Canada’s space industry, which added $3.8 billion to the economy in 2024.
On Friday, Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Jeremy Hansen opened the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, touring a space exhibition featuring photos from his historic Artemis II mission.
Three months after returning from the Artemis lunar flyby as the first Canadian to venture beyond low Earth orbit, Hansen announced his retirement from the Canadian Space Agency.
The federal government estimated the space sector added $3.8 billion to the economy in 2024, an important pillar for Canada's growth. Hansen emphasized inspiring the next generation workforce.
Despite his upcoming retirement, Hansen says he would "100 per cent go back to space" if asked while planning to "share the moon joy" by speaking with audiences about space.
Hansen intends to keep contributing to Canada's space industry while the country celebrates its role as a space-faring nation, figuring out how best to leverage his Artemis experience.
