Asian Shares Are Mixed and Crude Prices Fall After an Unsettled Day on Wall St
Bond yields near multi-year highs and losses in Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron Technology weighed on markets, even as PepsiCo rose 3.7%, analysts said.
Asian shares were mixed on Friday in holiday-thinned trading, while Brent crude oil fell 1% to $103.28 a barrel as markets in South Korea and Taiwan remained closed.
Treasury bond yields retreated after the government sold $22 billion in 30-year Treasury bonds at an auction with a high yield of less than 5.62%. The 10-year Treasury yield initially rose to 5.35% before falling back to 5.23%.
Equities fell 0.5% as drops for influential technology stocks overshadowed gains. Broadcom lost 4.3%, Micron Technology slumped 4.8%, and Nvidia fell 2.9%, weighing heavily on the broader market.
Brent crude prices veered after President Donald Trump said "productive discussions" are happening with Iran, signaling the U.S. military would not attack before November elections. Prices had previously pinballed between $96 and nearly $110.
The federal deficit climbed to nearly $2 trillion in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, while China is due to release its latest economic growth figures next week, potentially reshaping market sentiment.
