As Medical Org Pushing Child Sex Changes Lucks Out In Court, A Bigger Legal Battle Brews
A federal judge in Illinois blocked Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier from prosecuting the American Academy of Pediatrics over alleged false advertising about sex-change procedures on minors.
The judge ruled that Uthmeier's lawsuit was weak, taken in bad faith, and without a reasonable expectation of success.
Uthmeier appealed the decision, supported by 22 states in an amicus brief arguing the federal court's ruling infringes on state authority.
AAP defended its guidelines on free speech grounds, and the judge noted their promotion of gender-affirming care resembled scientific advocacy rather than a profit-making scheme.
