As Forest Service research stations close, Northwest church camps lose a wildfire safety net

In 2022, Westminster Woods, a church camp east of Pendleton, Oregon, on Interstate 84, consulted research published by the U.S. Forest Service Research Stations and thinned the overstocked forest on its 231-acre property to prepare for the next wildfire. Recreational camps, many of them church camps, are just one of the entities that face uncertainties about what will happen to that kind of research.
