Indian Army begins Arjun tank overhaul after 6-year delay, 26 upgrades in focus

Indias armoured warfare upgrade is moving on two tracks, with the Army testing 26 Mk-1A-derived improvements on its older Arjun tanks while preparing a much larger next-generation combat vehicle programme. The FRCV project targets 1,770 tanks to replace the T-72 fleet, with plans for multiple variants, higher indigenous content, AI-enabled systems, drone integration and advanced protection technologies.
