Arizona Man Swept up by EF1 Tornado While Riding His Bike
The cyclist was hospitalized with mud-covered injuries and no broken bones after the twister damaged homes, vehicles and trees, officials said.
On October 21, 2026, a cyclist identified as Artem survived an EF-1 tornado in Heber-Overgaard, Arizona, when powerful winds lifted him from his bicycle and tossed him into the mud.
The National Weather Service confirmed two EF-1 tornadoes struck the region that day, separated by nearly 12 hours, though severe tornadoes remain rare in Arizona.
Artem said the wind forced him off his bicycle as it became airborne; emergency personnel transported him to a hospital, where physicians confirmed he suffered no broken bones.
The storm caused significant property damage, including collapsed sheds and destroyed recreational vehicles, prompting Arizona's Department of Emergency and Military Affairs to activate its State Emergency Operations Center at Level 1.
Cleanup crews from the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief are operating from a local church as Republican Arizona Rep. Walter Blackman called on Gov. Katie Hobbs to declare a state of emergency.
