Apple TV Brings Free 'Widow's Bay' Screenings to AMC Theaters
The free screenings mark Apple TV’s first theatrical exposure for a series, following 19 Emmy nominations and a second-season renewal.
- On Wednesday, August 12, Apple TV and Rutgers University will host free fan screenings of Widow's Bay's final three episodes at six AMC Theatres locations across Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
- Created by Katie Dippold, the horror-comedy stars Matthew Rhys as a mayor revitalizing his cursed island and has become a breakout hit with 19 Emmy nominations, the most for a freshman show this year.
- "We're thrilled to partner with Rutgers University to bring Widow's Bay to fans and give them a chance to experience the final episodes of the season in a shared setting," said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV.
- The show joins an elite club of series like HBO's Game of Thrones and Netflix's Stranger Things that have held similar fan screenings, while Apple TV recently renewed Widow's Bay for a second season.
- Garnering 19 Emmy nominations, the freshman series has been praised for its originality, with star Betty Gilpin describing Widow's Bay as a "beacon of wholly original television.
