Apple drops encryption feature for UK users after government reportedly demanded backdoor access
Apple has stopped providing Advanced Data Protection to new UK users after the British government demanded backdoor access to data, as confirmed by an Apple spokesperson.
The ADP feature offered end-to-end encryption for iCloud data, meaning only account holders can access their files, but without it, certain data may be accessible to third parties with the proper legal authority.
The UK Home Office issued a technical capability notice requiring Apple to provide access to encrypted data under the Investigatory Powers Act of 2016.
Apple expressed disappointment over this decision, stating it is concerned about ongoing data breaches and threats to user privacy without the ADP feature.
DEBATE. When the government wants to install backdoors in all encrypted services, they undermine Sweden's security. The Armed Forces must have access to secure communication services, writes representatives of the Center Party.
