Anxious, Depressed About An Uncertain World? Training Can Help You Cope, Study Says
A 30-minute course improved uncertainty tolerance and reduced anxiety and depression in 18- to 24-year-olds, with benefits lasting up to one month, UNSW researchers said.

- Pressure from pandemic-era and ongoing societal stressors has increased uncertainty among young people, who face climate, economic, social and health challenges linked to worsening youth mental health, UNSW said.
- Researchers recruited 259 emerging adults, 18- to 24-year-olds, and randomly assigned them to Uncertainty-Mindset Training, psychoeducation module and no-training group.
- The researchers reported that the ultra-brief course produced the clearest improvements, while benefits began to wane by three months, psychoeducation showed modest effects, and the no-training group showed no change.
- The research team plans to refine and tailor the training and consider wider distribution, as Schweizer said, `The fact that a single session could produce measurable improvements suggests this kind of approach may have real value.
