Ant International, Mastercard and Visa Initiate Collaboration on Know-Your-Agent Interoperability to Scale Agentic Commerce
On Thursday, Ant International, Visa, and Mastercard announced a partnership to develop a common standard for AI agent payments, streamlining how these automated systems execute secure transactions for consumers and businesses globally.
McKinsey projections expect AI agents will handle $3 trillion to $5 trillion of global consumer commerce by 2030, necessitating a unified approach as these systems evolve from recommendations to completing direct purchases.
Building on existing protocols including Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol, Mastercard Verifiable Intent, and Ant International's Agentic Mobile Protocol, the framework fosters interoperability so merchants recognize trusted agents across payment ecosystems.
"Interoperability across Know-Your-Agent frameworks is essential," said Pablo Fourez, Mastercard Chief Digital Officer. The firms will collaborate through BuildFin.ai, convened by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
"Trust is the foundation of the AI transformation," said Jiang-Ming Yang, Ant International Chief Innovation Officer, emphasizing the collaboration addresses safety concerns as AI agents handle consumer transactions directly.
