Another Nightclub Firebombed Amid Escalating Club Wars
A 16-year-old Glen Eira boy and a 22-year-old Fitzroy North man were charged with criminal damage by fire and burglary following a ram-raid and firebombing at the Almina restaurant in Docklands.
On Saturday, May 2, the pair allegedly smashed through glass doors at the venue, poured accelerant inside, and set the building on fire before fleeing towards Docklands Drive.
Officers arrested the suspects hiding under the Bolte Bridge in Ron Barassi Snr Park after discovering a third male in a vehicle on Docklands Drive with jerry cans.
Detectives from Operation Eclipse are reviewing the incident to determine if it relates to a series of at least 30 targeted attacks on Melbourne hospitality venues since February.
Young offenders are recruited via encrypted apps to execute arson attacks for payments between $500 and $20,000, according to Detective Superintendent Jason Kelly.
