Cristian Bușoi, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, told Digi24 that there is no need to limit electricity consumption for large industrial consumers either this week or next week. He explained that, although the reactor 2 of the nuclear power plant at Cernavoda has been shut down, the production of electricity is compensated by the reopening of coal and wind power plants.
The energy situation is under control, the production capacity available operates at maximum capacity and helps to compensate for the non-availability of the CNE reactor 2 Cernavoda, informs the Ministry of Energy, through a communication.

Romania’s Cernavoda NPP Unit 2 to Remain Offline for at Least Another 10 Days
Restarting Unit 2 of Romania’s Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is unlikely over the next ten days, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy Cristian Busoi said in an interview with Digi24. He warned that drought and the low flow of the Danube River mean the facility must remain offline, adding that the Energy Ministry needs to carefully manage available reserves.
The energy system is in a critical situation due to the drought. Especially since the heat wave is still expected and, as a reminder, the Cernavodă power plant will remain closed until the end of the month. So, decisive days are coming, when consumption could increase exactly during the time when Romania is most vulnerable: in the evening, when the photovoltaic panels stop producing.
After the complete shutdown of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, Romania managed to maintain the stability of the National Energy System in peak hours with the help of photovoltaic energy stored in batteries, which recorded an unprecedented production peak this summer.
