‘Days of Thunder 2’ Coming in 2028
Paramount Pictures dated the sequel for summer 2028 as Cruise returns as Cole Trickle and Hathaway joins as a racecar team owner and engineer.
On Saturday, Tom Cruise announced that Anne Hathaway will star opposite him in the Days of Thunder sequel, with Paramount Pictures officially scheduling the racing drama for June 2, 2028.
The original 1990 film, directed by Tony Scott, earned $82.6M domestic and $157.9M worldwide; Cruise will reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle in the sequel.
Filmmaker Jonathan Levine is confirmed to direct the project, which will be filmed for Imax, while Hathaway is set to play a racecar team owner and engineer.
Hathaway has been on a tear in 2026 with four films in theaters, including Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2, and is also working on a three-quel to her star-making Disney movie The Princess Diaries.
This sequel marks the first significant IP Cruise will engage with after ramping down the Mission: Impossible franchise, while he is also on the hook for another Top Gun movie and the prestige drama Digger.
