On Sunday, November 1, Swedish runner Andreas Almgren won the men's 2026 New York City Marathon in his debut, while Kenyan runner Sheila Chepkirui claimed her second women's title.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the five-borough race drew about 60,000 participants navigating chilly and sunny conditions ideal for the 26.2-mile course through New York City.
In the wheelchair division, Swiss athlete Marcel Hug claimed his eighth title after a final-stretch sprint, while Catherine Debrunner dominated the women's field; each earned $50,000.
American Jessica McClain finished second, becoming the first U.S. woman on the podium since 2018, while Zouhiar Taibi placed 6th as the top American male finisher.
The race featured 40 Olympians and Paralympians, positioning elite athletes toward the LA 2028 Olympics and confirming the marathon's status as a premier international showcase.
