A 29-year-old Indian man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday in a Paris trial over his alleged involvement in an international criminal network that targeted vulnerable children in the US, Britain and Canada and coerced them into producing violent and sexual videos.
The Paris Assize Court sentenced Rohan Rane for a series of crimes and offences, including extortion in an organized band with aggravating circumstances for acts of torture and barbarism committed in particular against minors.
After five days of a trial behind closed doors, a lighter sentence than that required by the Attorney General was pronounced against this Indian national on Friday 9 October. Satisfied, the civil parties would nevertheless have preferred a public hearing, in order to raise public awareness of male violence.
Rohan Rane, a 29-year-old Indian, was tried in camera by the Paris Assize Court, a case never before seen in France.
