America's best cities for Halloween, ranked
WalletHub said New York led the 100-city ranking because it had the most candy stores per capita and the highest Halloween search interest.
New York City earned the top ranking as the best U.S. city for Halloween in 2026, according to a new WalletHub analysis. The city secured the No. 1 spot among 100 major U.S. cities for its abundance of holiday-related businesses and activities.
To evaluate the best cities, WalletHub compared 100 of the largest U.S. cities across 20 metrics. Data collected as of Sept. 28, 2026, included costume stores per capita, crime rates, and walkability from the Census Bureau and AccuWeather.
New York City boasts the most candy stores and second-most costume shops per capita. Residents also search for "Halloween parties" on Google more frequently than any other city, boosting its Halloween appeal.
Los Angeles and Jersey City, New Jersey, ranked behind New York City as second and third destinations for Halloween. Buffalo, the only other New York state city evaluated, finished with an overall score of 50.
WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo emphasized that the best cities provide "safest conditions for celebrating, along with an abundance of activities, Halloween-related stores and good weather." He noted the holiday carries risk, as children visit strangers' houses in the dark.
