AMD Just Put 300 Billion-Parameter AI Models on a Desktop
AMD says the 96-core workstation can run trillion-parameter AI models locally and reduce reliance on cloud computing.
- At the Internationale Funkausstellung in Germany, AMD Senior Vice President Jack Huynh unveiled the Threadripper Halo Station, a personal supercomputer designed for data-center-grade AI performance.
- This workstation shifts the paradigm from command execution to Agentic AI, allowing users to deploy large-language models locally rather than relying on increasingly expensive cloud computing.
- Equipped with 96 cores of Threadripper Pro and two MI350P data centre accelerators, the system features up to 576 gigabytes of HBM3E and two terabytes of system memory.
- The station, which Huynh called the "most powerful workstation in the world," competes with the NvidiaDGX Station, targeting corporate budgets with an expected price exceeding $100,000.
- Slated for release early next year, the system arrives as AMD's Data Center segment generated $7 billion in Q2, up 107% year over year.
